"It’s a good Friday to miss work.

Today, we will see the closest thing to a general strike in the United States since 1946. Much of Minnesota will simply say, 'Hell, no,' to the lawless, vicious, and absurdly unnecessary assault on their neighbors by the Trump regime's Department of Homeland Security."

The AUSD Rainbow Roundtable is producing a video of LGBTQ+ students in the district to tell their stories of the challenges they face in the school community.

This video will be used by the district as part of teacher training.

They are 35% of the way to their goal of $4k.

Edit: I'll be matching up to $2k there are $1400 of matching funds left.

The ICE situation in Minneapolis demonstrates the dangers of database software combined with pattern recognition and meta-data surveillance such as phone data. I'm sad and disgusted that clear danger to democratic society is not recognized by the general public on scale. Palantir is able to convince German federal officials and parliaments to buy their systems. the same technology that is core component of ICE's executive power abuse.

The double-sad is that even if this is discussed at all, 'sovereignity' seems to be the frame. 'Should we even do it at all?' doesn't exist as a question.

This get's even more substantial with the reminder that Holleriths punch cards have been used in Nazi-Germany for automating political persecution as laid out in Edwin Blacks 2001 'IBM and the Holocaust' from where this illustration is taken - a punchcard of the Amt für Rassenkunde

Hollerith / IBM punchcard of 1942 for automating racist categories and persecution

"The Trump regime picked this spot to make its case for breaking Blue America because, in many ways, it represents the best of this country. And rather than be content to be the human sacrifices the regime desired, the people united to take care of each other as much as possible. So look north, not just at who we see in the streets, but who gets that this is our only way forward."

After reluctantly catching up on the news during my snooze, this was the first bit I've read this morning that actually made me smile out loud (when you grin so wide and suddenly that your mouth actually makes noise):

via @cdarwinChuck Darwin

"He was an audio engineer whose kid went to school in the area. No way in hell was he going to let anyone come for the kids on his watch."

"Another friend put it to me like this: "ICE has made the classic Nazi mistake. They've invaded a winter people in the winter."

"[Today] people across Minnesota will stay home from work, school, and shopping areas in an 'ICE Out Day' to protest the federal agents in the state. The general strike has the support of businesses, unions, faith organizations, democratic lawmakers, and community activists."

'RECORD NUMBERS ALL OVER THE PLACE!' Trump’s social media account crowed tonight. 'SHOULD I TRY FOR A FOURTH TERM?'”

The Minneapolis General Strike, regardless of how successful it turns out to be, is already historic in several ways:

*It's the first General Strike in the U.S. in 80 years.

*It is supported by dozens of mainstream and relatively conservative unions, including the AFL-CIO.

This is significant because General Strikes were made illegal by the Taft-Hartley law that was written after the last one, the Oakland General Strike of 1946. Since then, the mainstream unions have been terrified of the legal consequences and haven't even entertained the thought.

That so many mainstream unions are supporting this General Strike tells us just how terrible conditions are right now in Minneapolis, and the U.S. as a whole, that they feel the legal consequences pale in comparison to the existential threat that Trump's Gestapo and his authoritarian rule pose for us all.

However, to really end fascism in the U.S., it will take more than a 1-day General Strike in just one city. Prolonged General Strikes across the country could achieve this goal. But that should not be the only goal. Because once workers have shut down the profit system for the rich, they can demand, and win, so much more. General Strikes have the potential to become revolutionary.

It is sad that so many liberals, and even many leftists, have been calling for a return to the pre-Trump status quo that was so miserable for the poor and working-class, that supported genocide and U.S. imperialism around the globe, that allowed people to go bankrupt or die of neglect due to the costs of healthcare, that did so little to slow down the climate crisis, that allowed so many marginalized communities to suffer violence and disrespect.

We should be fighting for more. Far more. And hopefully what happens in Minneapolis today will be successful and just the beginning of the start of this.

이런 것을 볼 때마다 '인간 유전자의 가능한 조합이 얼마나 적은데 차라리 지금 태어나 있는 어린이 중 나와 가장 닮은 사람을 찾는 것이 나을지도' 같은 생각을 합니다.
