FLASH SALE FOR HILDA’S MEDS ⚡️

10% off on my entire store with the code HILDA10 🌟 until next week!
evanskyarts.com

One of our budgies, Hilda, has had breathing issues since last Summer, and we’ve been trying to find the right treatment since. We’re hoping that antifungal meds will help, but the bottle is over 100€, so every little order would help a lot! 💕

Picture of Hilda: a pale blue budgie with a yellowish head, sitting comfortably on top of a cage. Another green budgie is yawning widely behind her. Another picture of Hilda sitting on a perch and looking directly at the camera.

In the Mastodon app when you click on a profile, you get "posts" "posts & replies" and "media". What it really needs is a 4th one, which is posts without boosts. Boosts are critical to the fediverse working (one of the reasons I boost a lot). But if you're looking for something a user wrote, finding it among the boosts can be a pain.

The admin has once again immersed the in a crisis. The officers who are supposed to be protecting America’s borders have again been unleashed on an American city—this time, . The authorities in want the & forces to leave; the US govt’s response has been to continue to allow them to operate without any limits.

Sometimes you have to break stuff to remake stuff, and that's the hard part, stepping into that gap between what has to change, and hoping it actually becomes something positive and useful.

Cheers to the Brave, that step into the unknown and the uncertain, not knowing if they'd find new faith or new family.

This is a fashion trend. It’s not just functional; camo serves no purpose of disguising whatsoever on Minneapolis streets. Militaries are dressing the part — and ICE is playing dress-up.

Avery Trufelman’s excellent podcast Articles of Interest spent an entire season on this topic, under the name “Gear.” Here’s on relevant episode.

@inthehandsPaul Cantrell as a veteran, I find the appropriation of military motifs by civil law enforcement extremely offensive, but also incredibly dangerous.

A particularly egregious example, that I wish people would address more often, is the use of the word "civilians" to describe people that are not whatever strain of police is using the term. "Civilians" refers to people within the general civil populace, as opposed to the military. The police (in all their various forms) are members of the civil society, and as such, civilians themselves.

Words have meaning, and those meanings matter. When we allow these subtle shifts in language, we normalize the militarization of police forces nationwide, but more than that, we reinforce the self-image of the police as separate from the rest of civil society. And history shows that when people view themselves as apart from civil society, they often see themselves unbeholden to the norms and ethics that govern civil society.

One can draw a pretty straight line from that to these guys cosplaying soldier, wearing full tactical gear, riding on MRAPs and HMMWVs, assault rifles on their shoulders like the movies, belt-fed automatic weapons mounted on turrets in the background for Kristi Noem's photo-ops. We, collectively, should have never let anyone get away with normalizing this from the second it started. Yet how many articles does one read in the press where no one ever bothers challenging a cop when they refer to the people that they've supposedly sworn to protect and serve as "civilians", as if they, themselves, are not?

If you read an article online and it has no mentioned author, do you automatically assume it was AI-generated?

"That’s the job. If “AI” is actually more expensive than paying actual people actual wages that’s still a good investment for capital because it is about breaking up the structures, networks and organizations that help workers organize and fight for labor standards and fairer wages."

A good reminder that we shouldn't just attack AI on how bad it is at what it's supposed to do.

The weird obsession with "correct posture" causes way more harm than good. What quaks espouse as the "correct posture" is a generalisation, and most likely not at all the correct posture for you as an individual. On top of that, obsessing over your posture most likely causes you to tense up, and tensing up will make any posture damaging.

Seriously. Go to a fucking trained specialist before spending ungodly amounts of money on overpriced chairs that don't help you. It's a scam.

A bohužel to funguje. Ale děje se i tohle facebook.com/dnesnaukrajine.cz:

“If you think about it some more, the Lockdown Mode should be the default mode for ... mobile devices. And not because of the security implications. Those are an added bonus. Because of the stupidity implications.”

“None of the "restricted" features are actually important or desired. Think about it. Calls from people you don't know? Check! Photo location blocking? Check! Web pages with pointless remote fonts? Double check! Sounds like an Internet reset, going back to 2010, when the computing world was nicer, saner, cleaner!”

I don’t agree with this entire article, but it’s a pretty thought-provoking take on iOS lockdown mode and how the author sees it as a usability improvement.

35 years after our show at Generator, there is a new Floating Concrete Octopus cassette in the world, a GenKen recording released on Tribe Tapes as cassette only, no downloads, tribetapes . com but I don't see it yet on their website.
I don't have a cassette player so I'm holding the cassette to my ear and petting it. Kinesiological listening!
