Interviewed on Al Jazeera today about ICE killing Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and made it a point to speak the names of all 9 people ICE has killed so far in 2026. Including Keith Porter, Parady La, Heber Sanchaz Domínguez, Victor Manuel Diaz, Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz, Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres, and Geraldo Lunas Campos.

We need unity of humanity against fascism and autocracy.

Will share the interview when it goes live.

Great news today the French government have launched their own Visio video conferencing tool

But the PR stories, while explaining it is French built, don't mention it is Open Source and based on LiveKit - so any government can reuse what they have done.

ICE watchers with cell phones are just as vital to accountability journalism as old-school whistleblowers.

Shooting, killing and otherwise targeting them is an attack on press freedom and transparency.

I keep thinking of that phrase — something like, “They reduce the meaning of the word to that which their machines can achieve.” And now I just see it everywhere.

- They made artificial "intelligence".
- They made a "browser" in a weekend.
- They added “presence” to the UI.

Rich human concepts narrowed to fit what a technology can achieve, then they lay claim to the name.

RE: social.vivaldi.net/@LonM/11596

UK PEOPLE: this is REALLY IMPORTANT. If the government bans under-16s from using VPNs, then logically they must intend to REQUIRE AGE VERIFICATION FOR ALL VPN USE. Which will affect adults too!

*Your* privacy and right to anonymous web browsing is at risk!

TAKE ACTION: No tech for ICE!

Today we're launching an action aimed at 🇨🇦 company Hootsuite 🦉, a registered B corp required by its certification to respect human rights... and a company actively seeking a billion dollar "social listening" contract with ICE.

If you want to tell them to tear those contracts up and permanently guarantee they will never provide their tools to ICE or DHS, take 30 seconds to speak up here!

“zzt how dare you accuse Mozilla employees of suffering from very obvious LLM psychosis”

please “enjoy” the State of Mozilla, one of the least hinged things I’ve seen released with pride by an established corporation: stateof.mozilla.org/ (epilepsy warning)

note the 2001-style not-Flash intro. the fake captcha. the timecube-esque prattle about AI threatening humanity. “DO NOT ACCEPT DEFAULT SETTINGS”. the ASCII art cop finger in the footer of the main page. all of it. what in fuck is this.

Alright Mastodon, I'm looking for work.

Senior software developer, specializing in low-level, embedded, and systems programming. Previous work includes video compression (developer on AV1 and AV2), silicon verification, and scientific/numerical software. Full CV/resume available on request.

Primarily looking for remote work, but would consider in-person in the UK if the circumstances are right.

Available for either contract work through the company I run (easiest route if you're outside the UK), or direct employment.

Tagging for visibility.

Ok! You can now follow OldInsuranceMaps.net here on the Fediverse: @oldinsurancemaps

This is a happy bonus of migrating the old blog and newsletter into .

Also woah this is complicated but I think I have things set up how I want them now 🤞 The main blog url is still blog.oldinsurancemaps.net, but now the newsletter is hosted there as well, and all content gets cross-posted to BlueSky and here.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake receives a great port for both Xbox consoles - and curiously, Series S manages to improve on texture quality vs Switch 2, despite having less available RAM: www.digitalfoundry.net/news/2026/01...

Cloudflare just published a vibe coded blog post claiming they implemented Matrix on cloudflare workers. They didn't, their post and README is AI generated and the code doesn't do any of the core parts of matrix that make it secure and interoperable. Instead it's littered with 'TODO: Check authorisation' and similar
