one interesting aspect of being a de-facto infrastructure provider (i maintain a lot of shit that fits that bill) is that some of the time—not very often, but it's noticeable—i will end up providing infrastructure to people i really dislike, or to people who hate me and try to undermine me, etc

i have concluded long ago that the only way to deal with this is to continue providing services in exactly the same capacity as if it was anyone else when this happens so long that the conflict is between them and me. doing anything else goes against the purpose of me maintaining the infra, which is to say, public interest

(i do sometimes take action against people who use my infrastructure in a way that is offensive to the public, but all of those cases so far were simple ones like spam or non-targeted harassment, not something i had to actually think about)

I really like not talking or making phone calls on public transportation. It’s a very nice social agreement. Unfortunately, it doesn’t apply everywhere or all the time. It seems that some people from the older generation failed to learn this social agreement. In Korea, I often see cases where older generations are ruder than younger generations. I had conservatively thought it would be the other way around.

I had an interesting[1] discussion last night about the difficulty of writing durable programs for the vast family of mutually incompatible operating systems that we call "Linux", and that as best as I can tell from these kinds of conversations there is no consensus on a correct way to do this and worse you tend to get aggressive people advocating for contradictory approaches.
