Some of you might already be using
forks (like Iceshrimp, Firefish, or Sharkey) that already work with . This is because their devs implemented the Mastodon API for broader compatibility.

Our first step was to achieve similar behavior but by fully using the dedicated Misskey API.

Now, we'll be able to add features that are specific to Misskey.

The worst fucking design failure of the unmitigated disaster that is Wayland is that "should I replace an X11 backend with a Wayland backend" is even a question worth asking.

Xlib is terrible! Nobody sane would ever want to code against that trainwreck of an API. It would have been so easy for Wayland to sweep in like the fucking Rohirrim and kill Xlib once and for all.

They *just* had to provide a feature complete replacement for X11 with a saner API. Complete failure on both accounts >:(

Sorry just had to vent :D But it's been nearly 2 decades (two fucking decades - entire computer companies have risen to fame and crumbled into oblivion in that timespan) and the question "is it time to replace the X11 backend with a Wayland backend" still requires careful consideration and weighing pros and cons.

If the goal was to sabotage desktop Linux it's hard to imagine something more effective than Wayland :/

If you include a link within a Mastodon post, it will automatically show a "link preview" below the post.

Link previews often show an image associated with the link and/or basic information about the contents of the link.

You don't have to do anything special, the preview is generated automatically. It may sometimes take a few minutes to appear if your server is busy.

More info about previews as well as many questions answered at:

Oh hey the mayor who uses AI to detect homeless people (so he can get rid of them, not help them) is running for California governor. That makes him uniquely suitable for the shoes he’s filling if he wins

I'm selling a car and I was quoted £500 by Land Rover for replacing a door lock. I decided to have a go myself, I've not done work like this on a car before. It wasn't easy, as I had to re align the door, but happy to say that I did it and it and it only cost me £25! 👍 Happy 😊

Yes, everyone and their grandma have linked to the latest Technical Connections video. I just watched it too and indeed learned a few nice things about renewable energy thay I did not know or hadn’t realised yet.

But that’s not why this video is outstanding. I’m not going to spoil this for you. Part way through I just loudly applauded alone in my hotel room.

Yes it is long, it’s fine watching at 1.3x or a bit more, but it is absolutely worth your time.

A local police chief was called by a woman’s partner, he called someone at ICE, and ICE un-kidnapped her.

Great.

What I want to know is:
1. Why this time?
2. Who did he call and why did they release this person?
3. Why aren’t/can’t other police departments do this?

I doubt it was an act of resistance. I suspect it was a someone knew someone situation. I hope I’m wrong.

This code worries me a *lot*, in bad ways. It's literally hacking into some custom hand rolled authentication and authorization system into the reference PDS implementation. Like, there's lots here that makes you go "good lord" and "this isn't how that's meant to work" github.com/bluesky-soci...

Politicians [in Cornwall] agree to stop using social media site [X]
bbc.com/news/articles/cdx47962

> A town council in Cornwall has agreed to stop using a social media platform for official business.

> "Twitter just doesn't feel like a place where responsible organisations should be touting their wares or aligning their values with."

> Erewash Borough Council in Derbyshire also made the decision to stop using the "unsafe" social media platform in January.

The most novel thing about moltbook is that it is likely the largest pool of VC-subsidized GPU access available to the public connected to the largest pool of consumer-owned compute. I have said before that I think we are in an overhang and the amount of idle consumer compute is an anachronism. This represents a shortening of the overhang and reveal of the anachronism. But also may prove to capital that there is high ROI for outcompeting consumers on compute and renting it to them.
