What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

"Sources tell Windows Central that internal teams are also beginning to push back against excessive integration, and the company may therefore reconsider its stance.

At the very least, Microsoft may dial back Copilot features or remove the chatbot’s branding from apps like Notepad and Paint to make the experience feel more conventional, the report says."

Something snapped into place in my mind. There is an anti-AI position that has absolutely nothing to do with luddism, or any other anti-tech position.

AI is cognitive suburbanization.

Think about it. Architecting everything so that I can't do even the most basic thing without gratuitously using a big, bloated, planet-destroying energy hog- one that *in theory* saves time, but actually just wastes it. Reducing all my options to the same generic, regurgitated, cookie cutter slop.

This guy named Ben Palmer made an "Immigration tip line" and people call it thinking he's ICE.

He records them and shares it with the world.

What do people sound like when reporting their neighbors, coworkers, students? Are they confident they are doing a righteous good thing?

Witness the banality of evil in these sheepish suburban voices.

Meanwhile, in pigeon news: An episode of a show touched on French Mondain pigeons. And good heavens!

"The Mondain is an ancient French pigeon breed. It was kept at many farms and also by poultry fanciers. The breed was described in documents, found in 1824. A distinction was made between three types of Mondain:

The large Mondain that, according to Buffon, sometimes reached the weight of a small chicken. This type of Mondain was very large, very heavy and had red eye ceres. The feather colour varied, in fact they occurred in all know pigeon colours. The number of offspring was low, also they often trampled the eggs or crushed them with their heavy body during incubation."

"The Zersetzung is working. He is taking himself apart, piece by piece, and replacing the parts with synthetic fillers because the world has told him his own parts are defective."

"The Colonization of Confidence" by Robert Kingett (@WeirdWriterRobert Kingett) is one of the best pieces of writing about "AI" I have ever seen. Read it over lunch and it literally made me cry in the restaurant.

did you know? if you're a paying adobe user, you can message the support and ask for offline installers for the software you pay for

why would you do that? if they ever were to discontinue one of their products (*cough* animate), you could still install and activate it

and while i do not publicly endorse piracy (for obvious reasons), i do want to note that installations made with these offline installers have way safer methods of patching them than downloading a pirated copy that's potentially malicious

all i'm saying is, those installers are kind of annoying to get these days. if you pay for the software, ask for the installers and make backups of them.

oh and last - you can ask for older versions too! even older than what the CC app shows you

RE: mastodon.social/@mcc/116002605

I have a stack of spare laptops at home. These would be good for testing small cluster. My home network is pretty unstable (30mins downtime total in a day, hard reset on every night, no LAN cable in wall) but new home is pretty done, so I'm going to make a homelab there before I actually move on.
