Just a short description, how to find interesting people in Fedi:

You will only very seldom find them by browsing federated timeline (Live channels - Other servers). The hashtags are better strategy, but only few nerds (like me) really use hashtags. I consider hashtags at least as important, as image ALT tags, but there is no "please add hashtags" movement in Fedi, because nerds are notoriously unable to self-organize (just like cats :nkoWave: ).

The trick, which works most of the time, is to look who boosted the popular statuses, which you really agree with. It of course creates "echo chamber", closed bubble... but you sure don't follow everyone in this bubble. Personal preferences would apply.

By following people with too many followers, you are almost sure to receive zero interest in your interactions, and in some cases - negative, angry response, because replies may be considered annoying or abusive, for various reasons.

People with too many followers may sometimes be glad to interact (like me) but more often they receive too many replies and they are already tired, bored and uninterested, eg. because it is not work for which they are paid for (among other reasons). Their sense of humor may just be incompatible with yours.

By following people with few followers, you can get very random results. Most of them are inactive... because they have too few followers, too few interactions, too little interest in their content. You may help some of them by following them, but the most likely the result will be big, safe, harmless Nothing.

So choosing the people with just right number of followers and posts, coming from interesting instances, may be the best choice. I don't want attack or insult the mastodon.social crowd, but they are likely to be normies, staying in their safe zone, put there by their default app setting.

Choose wisely, because you are now forming the bubble, which is likely to form you future Fedi experience! This is the "algorithm", here.

@xChaosChao-c' Hashtags all the way for me. I follow in preference to people. Not to say I don’t follow people, but often interesting ones discovered by hashtags.
I too shy away from people who are or who have a (very) large number of followers or are following. And especially if these two numbers are way out of line with each other.

If your interests are different from the standard nerd stuff, you may find activity a little quiet. But keep on and you will discover interesting people.

n.news.naver.com/article/020/0

We're working on live public transport schedules as the first step to public transport routing. Here is the helper web app that shows currently supported GTFS feeds in different countries and cities and helps to match bus/tram/train stops from OpenStreetMap.org with stops from GTFS: gtfs-osm-matcher.organicmaps.a
If you are interested in public transport schedules in your city, please let us know about feeds for your place/country, and help by adding/editing stops in OpenStreetMap.org

The number and content of papers originating from China concerning AI, smart classrooms, or any so-called intelligent-creative technologies are so overwhelming that it fills me with dread.
In a country devoid of morality, privacy, and human rights, machines and technology truly kill without a trace.
