I just saw a clickbait article titled โ€œShould you leave your TV on when youโ€™re not home?โ€ I snickered, remembering the time my mother did that to keep her dogs entertained, not realizing she left it on Cinemax (often referred to as โ€œSkin-emaxโ€ after a certain time of night). By the time she got home, the programming had switched to porn.

The dogs were _fascinated_.

Think about that if you decide to leave that TV on.

If you thought Australians were not tough, you need to recalibrate, and I recommend doing so by watching this recent story:

Paddle boarding mother and three kids aged 8, 12, and 13 get swept out to sea because the weather changes, and are unable to get back; but the family is saved because the 13-year-old boy swims 4 kilometers through the waves to call rescue.

From Open Media

Sign Canadaโ€™s Digital Sovereignty Charter

Canadian democracy is under threat. Algorithms and deceptive content are shaping what we see, think, and share, while foreign tech giants collect our data without limits.

Our current laws and digital systems arenโ€™t strong enough to protect us. This leaves Canadian voices, our choices, and our digital identities at risk. Parliament must step up and champion Canadaโ€™s Digital Sovereignty Charter now

RE: mastodon.social/@AltTextHealth

Oh. @Mastodon turned off the Public Timeline. Not just the UI but the API itself. Which all of my @AltTextHealthCheck reports depends on.

So I can switch to an API from a difference instance which is maybe weird because the account in on mastodon.social OR maybe @Mastodon can just turn off the UI and no the API? I assume the 2nd one is a long shot.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

folks: I'm trying to get a sense of the proportion of people here who are into retrocomputing today but didn't experience the machines when they first came on the market. I want everyone's input! Please boost!

(I'll ask the same question about minicomputers. This poll is about the early consumer home computers released between say 1977 and 1994.)
