What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

It was great to see fantastic people at @offline today, and thank you for listening my talk! If you'd like to get my deck, here it is: Fedify: Building ActivityPub servers without the pain.

Huge thanks @liaizonwakest ⁂ for organizing this event!

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the president of Somalia, says what the world has seen in Gaza is “another level of inhumane engagement in the history of the world.”

“This must remain an international priority despite all other challenges globally simply because without an equitable, legal, durable solution based on the two-state solution the world has been advocating for long, it will be a recurrent misfortune that the world will experience more.”

I’ve been asked on TV hits and interviews lately to explain why decentralized social media is better, especially re: Mastodon.

How would you explain the benefits of a platform like Mastodon and the fediverse to someone in just a few sentences? How would you make the argument that platforms like Mastodon allow for more free expression than big tech controlled apps?

Would love to hear people’s thoughts! Trying to make my arguments most effective

Tesla's own Robotaxi data confirms crash rate 3x worse than humans even with monitor
electrek.co/2026/01/29/teslas-

"Waymo, by comparison, operates a fully driverless fleet, no safety monitor, no human backup, and reports significantly better safety numbers. Waymo has logged over 125 million autonomous miles and maintains a crash rate well below human averages." (From comments: other sources say, that Waymo uses remote operators from the Philippines).

This means, that one of the four riders of Spamularity will probably be Tesla Robotaxi.

Looks like the AI companies have finally run out of money as they are asking various open source projects to test their closed source products for them for free. What could go wrong with giving access to an unknown tool to private code repos?

If I didn't know better, I would think this is an elaborate phishing scam, or they have run out of data to scrape and need more training material.

Gotta admire their brazenness...

"Democracy is now back to 1985 levels according to some metrics, with 72 percent of the world’s population now living under autocracy. Russia and China are less free today than 20 years ago. And so is the United States".

Buongiorno & Good morning...

I just saw highlights of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics 2026 and I really really liked it. I have no favorite winter sport to watch, but we'll see, maybe there will be some pleasant surprise.

As for the opening ceremony itself, it was really fresh, modern looking. I'll start with the thing I'm not sure it needed: Mariah Carey - in the country with 59 millions of singers, why?

On the other hand, the national anthem sang by Laura Pausini was a great choice: she's well known even abroad, has a very decent voice that suits for this occasion, she's kind of "in the middle" of generations so she'd be accepted as a singer of the anthem by the younger generation as well as by the older one. And she does look great, that's always a plus.
