Please, please, I beg you, do not elevate Frey as the exemplar of some kind of new progressive Democrat.
His public statements during the ICE invasion have been •excellent•, and I’m so grateful for that. But as a mayor, in terms of actual •action•, he’s been a bitterly disappointing centrist bucket of slush, a staunch defender of the “I am not racist but I draw the line at losing street parking” sort of crowd. He blocked efforts to deeply change the Minneapolis Police after the murder of George Floyd, instead pushing hard for less accountability and more secrecy. He’s blocked all sort of progressive local initiatives, and has been awful — •awful• — on homelessness, going on a bulldozing spree that makes me sick to my stomach.
He can be great at saying the right things in the spotlight, and I’d love to see him be somebody’s press secretary. But please don’t elevate him as a leader.
What I love about curling is the commentator can be like "Wow! What an attempt!" and what are you going to do? DISAGREE?!
The only non-rusty philosophical razor, as far as I'm concerned, is Occam's Razor.

I know that “I no longer look at the code” is a real cult, which brings me to my second thought: the more opinionated the engineer, the more likely they are to produce something truly production-ready. The same applies to architectures. TCA is a good example.
An LLM doesn’t generate “clean” SwiftUI code, not because there aren’t enough resources, but because no one, not even Apple, seems to have a clear definition of what that really looks like.

Much as you don't generally go auditing the bytecode or intermediate representation generated by your compiler, I think the idea of manually reviewing LLM-written code will fall by the wayside too. Like it or not, these agents are the new compilers, and prompting them is the new programming. Regardless of what happens with any AI bubble, this is just how things will be from now on; we've experienced a permanent, irreversible increase to the level of abstraction. 여러 미니 PC를 써보면서 맥미니가 인기가 괜찮은 이유를 하나 알게됨. 이건 전원 어댑터가 없음. 다른 미니PC들이 안정적으로 전원 공급을 하기 위해 꽤 무거운 어댑터를 달거나 기술 자체는 안정적이겠지만 충전기를 믿기 힘든 USB-PD를 쓰는데 비해 중간에 덜렁거리는 거 없이 그냥 본체에서 220V 콘센트에 꽂고 스위치 켜면 된다는 간단함은 확실히 매력적이긴 함. USB-PD에 뭐 다른 의견도 있긴 하겠지만 나는 일단 충전기 하나를 해먹어봐서 노트북에는 별 불만이 없는데 미니PC용으로는 좀 더 비싼 거 사야 하나 싶어짐.

It still has a long ways to go but #Loops is so much better than it was 1yr ago. It was almost unusable back then.
I am looking forward to when it predominantly has its own content rather than just exports from TikTok though.

@djlinkDavid Amador that is a very poor-quality source; modern SSDs indeed hold data for years, and powering them also doesn't increase data retention; they're not in any technical sense related to static (which needs constant power, very little) or dynamic RAM (which needs refresh cycles every few milliseconds).
You can be pretty certain that a not end-of-write-life SSD will retain data for years to decades. If you care, some SSDs actually specify more than just a overall MTBF (often in the 10⁶ h)

Honestly the takeaway should probably not be "don't use SSDs for long-term storage" and more "If you want a specific storage device to last longer than a decade, do your research and don't assume whatever random consumer hardware you're currently using will work"

TIL that SSDs can lose data if left unplugged for long periods of time (only required to hold data up to 1 year), unlike HDDs which as long as the material holds it can take years.

I am happy to announce that I've changed my mind, and will be adopting GotoSocial interactionPolicy in Pixelfed and Loops.
While Pixelfed comment controls predate GtS, they provide a much better solution compared to our current boolean nature.
I look forward to working with 
@dumpsterqueertobi (they/them) is writing bugs 
and the GotoSocial team on compatibility and implementation, to bring better safety features and tools to Pixelfed and Loops.
