In since post-Xcode Agentic coding we’re all having the “are LLMs compilers” conversation again…
It’s really helpful to think of LLM’s as databases of _someone else’s code._ That pretty quickly establishes good bounds of what they are and what they are not. They’re a bit more than that but still fundamentally constrained by the data.
That also gives you a good sense of the ethics, and the progress curve. They can really progress only as long as they have data to gobble up.

Much as you don't generally go auditing the bytecode or intermediate representation generated by your compiler, I think the idea of manually reviewing LLM-written code will fall by the wayside too. Like it or not, these agents are the new compilers, and prompting them is the new programming. Regardless of what happens with any AI bubble, this is just how things will be from now on; we've experienced a permanent, irreversible increase to the level of abstraction. @stroughtonsmithSteve Troughton-Smith I'm at a point where if I'm getting this shoved down my throat and be forced to use LLMs for everything, I'll just quit and do something else. I'm here for the art, the thinking, the human factor. If I'm forced to be replaced by AI then so be it and I'll just go garden or something else AI can't ruin.

Someone got really upset with me on Blacksky because I said Black, Brown and Native folks shouldn't trust the intentions of white people in the US based on the their history of constantly betraying the interest of every other social group.
The interesting part is that they kept trying to create the context that what happens in the US happens everywhere, which is demonstrably not true, and even if it was, it doesn't excuse the havoc the white political body has caused for a very long time.
I was just fascinated with how far they took it an attempt to avoid acknowledging a basic reality of life in the US.

차라리 기내식이 훨씬 맛있엇슨 비프앤라이스 라고 했지만 그냥 갈비찜에 밥 비벼먹는 맛이었고 좀 짜긴 했지만 남은 소스 빵으로 닦아 먹을 만큼 맛있엇슨 빵 밑에는 콩이랑 당근(둘다 내가 싫어함)으로 만든 샐러드가 있어서 처음엔 안 먹을까 하다가 맛이나 보자 하고 한입 먹었는데 내가 지금까지 콩과 당근을 잘못 먹어왔나 싶을 정도로 맛있엇슨 뭐 대단히 맛있진 않았지만 암튼 내가 알고 있던 콩과 당근 보다는 훨씬 맛있어서 냅다 먹어치웟슨 오히려 저 초코크림? 같은 게 제일 내 취향일줄 알았으나 느끼해서 제일 별로엿슨
