Discord has gamification built in that is fun - cute animations, flair, etc. you can buy or earn. If you're looking for that, I don't have options for you, sorry.
I've used 
@zulip for a few projects I check in on, and liked it enough that I have considered recommending it at work. It's a combination of a forum and chat room.
