Every second day, I see this dashing old guy in one of the sofas of the Grand Pac hotel lobby scratching stuff into a thick notebook that looks more like a ledger with graph paper lines, this morning he looked up as I was coming out, so I asked him what his new book was about, we've never met, but he just has that writer's vibe to him.

He said he was not a writer, but a retired biologist. I asked him what he was writing then, or drawing, it was full of little doodles, he said he wasn't writing, he's keeping busy trying to crack some old ideas he's had during his time working at the university and I so I asked something like "Don't you need a microsope or a computer or something", he said that no, paper is fine.

Mitchell Hashimoto releases Vouch to solve the slop PR problem github.com/mitchellh/vouch

Historically, the high effort required to contribute to FLOSS acted as a natural filter for quality. AI tools have now removed that barrier, allowing low quality, "plausible-looking" contributions to flood projects. To adapt, open source must shift from an implicit trust model to an explicit trust model, where known maintainers vouch for contributors to ensure quality and accountability.

๐Ÿค” As I become more and more of an Old, I have come to realize how much people need to move on and get over themselves.

If you don't like the Super Bowl Halftime show, then who cares?

It was clear to me that the messaging was going to the right places and while I know zero Spanish, I still enjoyed the ride. Was it my favorite? Does. Not. Matter.

It was a success despite you and me.

A win is a win is a win.

It's a real pity that we don't have a server with this kind of disk space sitting around, because work could easily provide the hosting and probably the bandwidth (certainly 1G, that's easy for us, but we probably don't want to give it direct 10G bandwidth so more would be either host ratelimits or bonding multiple 1G links to get 2G or 3G).

If someone in Toronto has the server but not the hosting/bandwidth, feel free to get in touch with me.

Are you an @emfElectromagnetic Field fan? Do you love things like the art, the installations, the free childcare? Then send your favourite organisations to emfcamp.org/sponsor ๐Ÿ’– weโ€™d love to hear from potential sponsors, if none of our tiers quite fit what youโ€™re after, please donโ€™t let that stop you reaching out.

Boosts for reach much appreciated.

RE: med-mastodon.com/@jeneralist/1

So the JKF Jr is not only going to harm people in the USA with his anti-vaccine idiocy, heโ€™s now going to harm people worldwide because Moderna is now no longer going to research vaccines for infectious disease that kill people. While I donโ€™t particularly like pharma companies and their business practices, this is pure stupidity.

People pontificating about whether codebases containing LLM-generated code are subject to IP protection all seem to be forgetting the key point that the law always sides with capital

When big media decided that pirating an mp3 file should be a criminal (not civil) offence, the law sided with them

When big tech decided that pirating every piece of media on the internet for AI training was fair use, the law sided with them
