Minnesota is an anathema to the Trump administration.

“He’s attacking Minnesota because of Minnesota’s virtue,” said Keith Ellison, the state’s attorney general

It’s a midwestern state that hasn’t voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1972,
including the three times it voted against Donald Trump.

A strong and growing
Scandinavian-style social safety net
and welcoming culture to immigrants
has attracted populations from around the world over the last few generations, including the largest Somali population outside Somalia.

The state is a refuge for trans people and abortion access.

It has high levels of civic engagement,
regularly ranking at or near the top for voter turnout.

It is a donor state, sending more money to the federal government than it receives.
It has higher organized labor participation rates than the national average.
Minneapolis, its largest city, ignited the nationwide 2020 protests over police brutality and racism after a police officer killed George Floyd.

EU countries falsely accuse UN expert Francesca Albanese in ‘witch hunt’:

Francesca Albanese’s Doha speech was doctored to suggest she called Israel the “common enemy of humanity”.

She posted the full video, saying she meant the system shielding abuses from accountability.

France, joined by Germany and the Czech Republic, has urged her resignation, despite UN warnings of mounting attacks and disinformation against independent experts.

Ali al-Samoudi, 59, was one of the journalists with Al Jazeera’s Shireen Abu Akleh when she was fatally shot in the head by an Israeli sniper in Jenin, the occupied West Bank, in May 2022.

In a statement issued to CNN, the Israeli army said: “As sufficient evidence was not found against him, and in light of the accumulated intelligence material, security authorities requested to consider issuing an administrative detention order.”

‘Israel was created because it expelled the Palestinians’

The issue of the right of return is at the “very heart of the problem between Israel and the Palestinians”, Ghada Karmi, author of Return: A Palestinian Memoir, tells Al Jazeera.

The fact is that “Israel could never have been set up without expelling the native population, that is, Palestinians, like me, and it continues to survive because it does not permit the return of Palestinians to their homeland”, she said.
