"Europeans are dangerously reliant on US tech. Now is a good time to build our own" in @guardian by
@johnnyryan

This precisely it.
1. We have seen how judges and politicians have been blocked by USgov, applying the BigTech kill switch
2. So, Living in Europe is no protection against Donald Trump bricking your digital life.
3. EU continues to rely on US tech, "Young Europeans view the world through a lens distorted by Snapchat filters and YouTube algorithms. Europe’s news organisations rely on Google ad auctions."
4. Despite all this, Europe possesses a path to digital sovereignty. We have the tech. Governments are starting to migrate to sovereign and public digital infra. I just relaunched my blog under a new name: Do Flamingos Know They're Pink. 🦩

It's a question that came to me in a dream and I keep coming back to: how much do we understand about the systems we're embedded in? Flamingos aren't born pink, but become pink gradually because of their diet. We're all being shaped by what we consume: the question is whether we notice.

I don't think people here realized yet how much development has sped up in the "atmosphere*"

I fear for the future of the fediverse if we don't get our shit together in some key areas. The way the lexicon system over there allows interoperability between distinct types of data and interface is really showing now that the developer ecosystem is picking up.

Dear fediverse, I've got a Amd Radeon 5600XT with 6GB of RAM that came with this PC and I don't need.

I bought it for ~300€ the PC, was one of those pricing errors by Cash Converters I found after browsing their entire catalogue, my goal was the processor, the GPU was an afterthought as I'm no gamer.

It's a rare one with a small-form factor, but works fine. Except I can't make it not crash Hyprland on latest Nixos, same with any Wayland-based desktop (Sway, KDE Plasma 6) while in Xorg works fine.

I'm giving it away FOR FREE, as far as you're in charge of shipping costs door to door.

Over at LinkedIn, somebody posted the results of putting a Linux server with sshd exposted to the internet for 30 days recently.

In that particular area, not much seems to have changed since the early years of this century when the events chronicled here nxdomain.no/~peter/hailmary_le (or if you prefer Big G's trackers, bsdly.blogspot.com/2013/10/the) occurred.

This is truly glorious from in their "Introduction to Github" course.

I don't know why Tim is working in the opposite direction, but I can see that he never once "morges" his code back into develop, let alone doing it "continvoucly"

Update:

It looks as though after 4-5 months the page has been updated, but if you want to see the image in situ still then the way back machine has you covered.

A visual representation of what should be the GitFlow process, showing how changes move from feature branches, to develop, release, and master. The diagram is a mess of arrows with some pointing in the wrong directions, and with multiple AI induced sentences such as "Bugfixes from rel, branch may be continvoucly morged back into develop", and no, that's honestly what is says
