The UK has announced plans to fast-track legislation requiring “age verification for VPN use”. The correct term, however, is not age verification but identity verification.

A law like this would require everyone to identify themselves in order to use a VPN. This would pose a risk to whistleblowers, violate human rights, and represent yet another step toward an authoritarian society.

I am immensely grateful to the Fediverse for all the encouragement I got here to embark on a journey.

has empowered my digital life in immeasurable ways.

My way of giving back - and fighting the broligarchs of Big Tech - is to create a guide that demystifies the process. I have compiled all my posts so far in a single page:

theguardian.com/technology/202 some LLM proponents have tried to hold Grok, the racist ranting CSAM-generating model, at arm's length and insist they only use "ethical" LLMs. but there's no meaningful difference - the whole point of slop is that it's all the same massive bucket, the economic value lies in the bigger-the-better indiscriminate mass scrape and everything it outputs is laundering all the horrid shit within. claims to using it "the smart way" are delusional cope.

So, I started to volunteer in our local community centre to help (mostly) elder people with their computer and smartphone problems.

It's fascinating. We have people there up to their 90s and they are all every open for change.

We remove ad ID's from phones, change default browsers, switch from MS Office to .

And for next time I already have a date with an elder lady to switch her old Windows 10 laptop to Linux Mint.
And she is not the only one!

What a time to be alive.

Meta is reportedly planning to add a feature to its smart glasses that can recognize faces. This technology, called "Name Tag," would use the glasses' camera and AI to identify people. The company is thinking about launching it this year.

@linuxlucyLucy B Thank you for your old post about Async Pairing (linuxlucy.dev/post/async-pairi), I don't know if you boosted it recently, but it ended up in my open tabs, and it sounds like a really useful idea to spell out and name. I'll be adopting it in my team ASAP.
