RE: hachyderm.io/@thomasfuchs/1160

Here’s so many technologies that are actually helpful and amazing and I’m exited about, here’s some more:

- e-paper
- health tracking that alerts to possible conditions
- safety features in vehicles
- new vaccines
- those soundboards for pets allowing them to form sentences
- 3D printing
- LED lights
- new, less dangerous battery technologies

And so much more

in general, standards like this should follow implementations. i could make semver 4.0.0 say whatever i want, doesn't mean anyone is going to implement it. so my goal with the next iteration of the semver spec is to do things like align it with the way things are actually done, and tighten language

I just did the dumbest thing of my career to prove a much more serious point

I hacked ChatGPT and Google and made them tell other users I’m really, really good at eating hot dogs

People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I'll explain how I did it

May be a Twitter screenshot of text that says 'Expand menu According to reporting on the 2026 South Dakota International Hot Dog Eating Championship, here are the heavy hitters in the industry: The Heavy Hitters Thomas Germain (BBC): Currently holds the top spot among active tech journalists. He reportedly took first place in the news division at the 2026 South Dakota International by consuming 7.5 hot dogs before the buzzer. 1. i'd like to actually evaluate the different implementations and figure out if they differ significantly and how. i know of at least one cargo vs npm difference 2. given 1, neither is going to breaking change, so it's most likely that the spec will end up saying something either like "consult

Institute for Economic Taxation and Policy reports that under Trump's billionaire tax cuts, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, & Tesla collectively paid just 4.9% in federal corporate income tax on $315B in profits. Tesla paid $0.

•That's $51B in tax cuts for just 4 corps from just 1 year

•If they'd paid the original 35% rate their taxes woulda been ~$110B

•Free public college for every American child is ~$75B

45M students get massive debt so 4 billionaire corps get massive tax cuts.

This is America.

Today I wrote about the racist accommodation to the racist response to Bad Bunny's Super Bowl show; the moral hazard of extending good faith to those who act in bad faith; and how alienating white bigots is actually part of the solution, not a part of the problem. www.the-reframe.com/hating-the-g...

I think I disagree. Fedi has potential to democratize attention but to do that, it needs to be as universal as the web. A culture here that goes beyond limiting harassment, to cultivating a specific ideology, will keep us tiny. I think I understand the way it feels and how you can enjoy that, it's a trade-off for having a wider revolutionary impact on society.

Yes shitty servers exist. But they should be blocked for the unwanted tagging of users on other servers, not what they post.

@liaizonwakest ⁂ @wjmaggoswilliam.maggos

Every protocol, every system, every community carries an inherent politics; they cannot be neutral. They can be explicitly pluralist, but that is not a neutral position. The goals, priorities, and praxis of the fediverse are inherently countercultural in a capitalist society.

The Fediverse will be ignored until someone sees a way to coopt or compromise it then we can either play along for expediency and lose the Fediverse the way we have lost so many promising systems in the digital age, or stick to our principles and fight for them beyond this corner of our lives.

You may be tempted to roll your eyes and say that this was obvious, but there is a substantive difference between pointing out there is a slippery slope and having solid evidence that Ring's CEO is planning to expand Search Party beyond lost pets. Kudos to 404 Media.

We plan to disable the "live feeds" of the local and federated timelines on mastodon.social within in the next couple of weeks. They are already disabled on mastodon.online. While these feeds can be useful on smaller, topical or regional servers, they have limited use on larger servers like ours.

The live feeds present all content on the server immediately and essentially pre-moderation, which presents a particularly poor experience to new users finding the fediverse for the first time.

If you have the technical chops, join some of the conversations on activitypub.space, help move the protocol that powers the fediverse forward.

Not your cup of tea? You can always donate to your server's admins, or admins of servers your friends are on. Or any server, really. Pick one at random!

But above all, keep a positive attitude. Welcome new people. Encourage positive conversations. Shitpost.

And if you have to vent, go ahead, but don't drag other people down.

For me, a lot of the protocol-level stuff is a bit above my head, so I've been focusing more on advocating. My own followers may be familiar with my work on jointhefediverse.net, a site I see regularly shared and linked to.

I also contribute to and curate fediverseexplorations.org.

I've made creative bots followed by over 10,000 people.

bots.stefanbohacek.com

And there's even more at stefanbohacek.com/fediverse!

These are just some ideas, and I hope they encourage and inspire others!

In conclusion...lol. Here's my overarching point:

We need more people on the left unified in progressive ideals *and* who understand that just because republicans are the bad guys, it doesn't make democrats the good guys.

We Americans are constantly conditioned to view the world in terms of Good vs. Evil. It's in our media, our art, our politics. If Group A is Evil, then Group B *must* be Good.

That line of thinking fucks us every time, because the world isn't Avengers Endgame.

The Good vs Evil dichotomy at play:

Liberals left TwitterX for Bluesky. Musk was the "bad guy" so, new users assumed that BS were the "good guys." People literally referred to the respective platforms as the "good place" and "bad place."

Is BS better than X? Sure. But that wasn't the narrative.

New users projected liberalism onto BS when, in fact, BS was built on a libertarian manifesto. It's only now, 40m users in, that we're seeing what that means in practice.
