@glyph Finally had time to read your blog post laying down ground rules for how to engage you (if we must!) in discussing AI.

This is great. Really well written, and as one might expect from you very well thought out and reasonable.

This can be a very difficult topic for people. I think part of why there are so many strong feelings is we all have the strong sense that this IS a game changer. It's just a question of how bad (or good if you're a maximalist!) it will be.

I'll admit it, I'm kinda scared for the industry as a whole, but don't feel like I can afford to take any kind of ethical stance, in no small part because I'm one of the people who would ABSOLUTELY spiral down the drain if this stuff ceased to exist.

Hope you're well and doing your best to have a good winter!

RE: toot.fedilab.app/@apps/1160650

The results are in: the community wants back. So we'll be bringing it back.

Source code will be reopened and the service restored from a clean slate as all data was deleted when we shut it down.

We've also heard the concerns and will work on making the opt-out process even more visible.

I'm going to ask a stupidly geeky question.

Has anyone here used a FRM - Friend Relationship Manager?

Like a CRM. A database of people you know, with entries about when you last met, if they stood you up, what their favourite drink is, what you argued about, etc.

I'm looking for *personal* recommendations from people who actually use one of these tools.

What do you like about them? What would you change?

No need to reply if you don't use one, thanks!

The story that Elon Musk committed voter fraud has gotten next to no coverage -- one of those things you can't make come up on a Google search. But I think it's time for Dems to go on offensive abt right wing coddling of this immigrant interfering in our elections. newrepublic.com/post/206857/...

Hot take, so controversial it counts as trolling: all notifications should default "off". Anything that can interrupt or distract the person using a computer or other device should be explicitly turned on by that person.

There are exceptions for things that can cause serious harm if ignored. "You've got mail" is not an exception. Neither is "someone liked your social media post".
