What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

I have no idea what this is.

I think ad recommenders must periodically suffer from some kind of model collapse. I'm being stalked by ads for things like operating theatre gear, hyperbaric chambers and devices like the attached.

I'm not gonna complain too much. It's much more interesting than it used to be and hope it doesn't revert to video poker too soon.

I still believe it is a serious flaw in Mastodon's software that the tree of options for reporting a post does not include a specific way to represent "impersonates server staff"

Just went down a confusing rabbit hole because it appeared out of Nine Inch Nails's free "Ghosts" albums, Tidal had 1-4 and 6 but not 5. Then it turned out they had 5 but had classified it as a single (it's 70 minutes long)

I need a few—probably 3—of an "office busy light" product like this amzn.to/4b1vvUZ for a home office setup. But:

1. They all cost like $50 which seems like *way* too much for an LED on a stick
2. That cost seems to mostly pay for software that directly integrates with Microsoft Teams. I have no need for integration with Microsoft Teams and in fact kind of anti-want that.
3. I want to write my own automations and it's not clear if they have an API

Is there a cheap/DIY version of this?

@codinghorrorJeff Atwood @simonSimon Willison In addition to what's already been mentioned, I find the concept of claw agents taking the *initiative* and making suggestions to improve any process they have access to quite appealing. If you're willing to give them full access, they could, theoretically, suggest ways to improve your daily life in general. The key difference is doing stuff you don't even know you need improving.
