Downloaded a youtube of Jonathan Blow talking about Jai but its actually some kind of reaction video where someone streams themselves in the corner of the screen tugging on their chin thoughtfully (blocking the slides in the OG video). Due to buffering their are even some missing sections of the OG video. I am numb with shock that anybody could think it was a good idea to post online. I wasted 500mb of my monthly download quota for this lol.

so it turns out my instance was semi-broken for five days! when i replaced quote with quoot, it broke a string interpolation function that was trying to generate a phrase like {quote} by {user}, because it became {quoot} by {user}, and {quoot} is an invalid ID.

the thing is... i've had this stupid "translation" script since 2021. it ran just fine for nearly five years, replacing post with shit and boost with yeet, but quote to quoot was a bridge too far. i guess there just aren't any string templates with any of those other words??

@ray95레이 🏳️‍🌈 (후기)

I've written a series of blog posts, in which I write a and a for arithmetic in . We explore the following topics in the series:

- Parsing arithmetic expressions to ASTs.
- Compiling ASTs to bytecode.
- Interpreting ASTs.
- Efficiently executing bytecode in a VM.
- Disassembling bytecode and decompiling opcodes for debugging and testing.
- Unit testing and property-based testing for our compiler and VM.
- Benchmarking our code to see how the different passes perform.
- All the while keeping an eye on performance.

The third and final post of the series that focuses on writing the virtual machine is now out: abhinavsarkar.net/posts/arithm

I have always been a proponent of websites publishing for their content. My own website has feeds for almost everything on it (abhinavsarkar.net/feeds/). But till now, it only published latest few items in each .

I also extensively use to read many feeds. I noticed that while subscribing to people's feeds, I find myself looking at their older posts published years ago, and often find interesting stuff in them. So I've decided to remove limits from the feeds on my website, so that it shows all my posts ever.

I hope people find something interesting in my old posts as well.

Hello from an old year 1997 Machine!
This snac server is now running on a Micronics Spitfire with 2x Pentium II @ 233MHz and 512MB SD-RAM. Operating System is NetBSD 10.1, installed on a 120GB SSD (SATA->IDE converter)

OpenBSD wasn't able to run snac stable on this machine, it crashed after a few requests with "illegal instruction".

Open 19" 90's rack Case with a green motherboard in it and old grey ribbon cables connected to a dvd drive and a ssd. there are two addon cards in the pci slots and two slot 1 pentium ii cpus with fans installed. The 4:3 screen shows a fastfetch output giving stats of the machine , an htop screen with two cpu usage graphs and snac loggreen motherboard with two pentium ii slot 1 cpus

RE: vis.social/@infobeautiful/1161

A fun thing to think about: Where are all the Singularity people with solar?

There’s this whole pseudoscientific subculture organized around the one epistemological premise of “lines that go up will go up forever,” when in reality trends change and curves level off. And now here’s this one thing where people keep stubbornly predicting that it will level off and in fact the line (on a log scale) •has• kept going up far more consistently than predicted…. So why aren’t all the Effective Altruism people saying stuff like “In the future solar cells will save trillions of lives, so it doesn’t matter how many oil executives we kill in the present?”

Credit where it's due. After a messy launch, Skyrim on Switch 2 is essentially fixed - and it's great to see a developer react so comprehensively to constructive criticism: www.digitalfoundry.net/features/swi...
