What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

RE: hachyderm.io/@rationaldoge/116

Is it OK to call them concentration camps yet?

Or do we have to wait until they all get built?

Until they get filled?

Until they become death camps?

Please, if you object to the term “concentration camp” right now, clearly identify your bright line for when that term becomes acceptable.

If anyone is looking for a software engineer with a lot of experience (~20 years) with a dozen or so major programming languages, I've been let go recently in a restructuring. Coworkers often come to me for help because I never make anyone feel stupid for asking questions and will help find a solution if I don't have the answer right away. I can design, implement and deploy backend/distributed systems in any language/stack you want. Portland, Oregon, USA or remote.

Will Bunch: "But officials in the small town of just 5,000 also did something else that probably raised some hackles at Kristi Noem’s ultrasecretive Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They made public what few documents that DHS has so far been willing to share with Social Circle, including its blueprint for what the innards of an American gulag will look like.

"Close to two-thirds of the massive, rectangular floor plan is divided into 80 squares separated by narrow corridors, each box with dozens of strike marks. The thousands of marks presumably represent bunk beds but what they truly signify is human beings."

Neat ideas for navigating threaded comments & new comments highlighting. I kinda thought of this but really wonder about its usefulness.

- If there's too much nesting of comments, the sidebar space won't be enough
- It shows "[INT] [NAME]" where INT = vote count. Higher count is probably more read-worthy?
- Per-day filter for new comments highlighting is probably too broad in scope if the conversation is too active.
- Sidebar won't appear on smaller viewports 🫠

@stefan

I think you just have to add the following to allow Mastodon and everyone else who implements FEP-044f to quote-post it:

"interactionPolicy": {
"canQuote": {
"automaticApproval": [
"w3.org/ns/activitystreams#Publ"
]
}
},
