What is Hackers' Pub?

Hackers' Pub is a place for software engineers to share their knowledge and experience with each other. It's also an ActivityPub-enabled social network, so you can follow your favorite hackers in the fediverse and get their latest posts in your feed.

on linux: what arguments do you use with netstat or ss? (and what situation do you run it in?)

the only thing I can think of is `netstat -tulpn` to show all processes that are listening on a port and the PID (so I can kill the offending process) but I feel like there must be one or two more useful ones

(I say "linux" because linux netstat is a bit different)

Scam or not?

New voicemail from +1 971-406-2654 (00:20):

Hey, it's Lisa from the garage door company. Just a friendly reminder that it is time for your yearly garage door maintenance this week just to make sure you'll avoid future problems. Please send us a text or call us for more information. Have a good day, bye-bye.

This was to my Google Fi number with a silicon valley area code.

No, I am not going to actually listen to it.

What if we do a "Invite one person to the fediverse" day?

A day where everyone at the fediverse go and reach a friend, family, stranger, coworker, partner, mistress, neighbor, rival, coffee buddy, artist, business partner, etc... and invites them/onboard-them to any of the apps.

I Love the Fediverse Day kind of a thing. Does that exists already? Any specific date in mind?

I heart the FEDIVERSE day logo

looking at all the awesome new CSS added to Safari 26.0 through 26.3

thinking about how many years this stuff will be held back from easy adoption because of Apple's anti-consumer practices

update Safari on iOS 18, Apple 🫤

RE: toot.blue/@satotsu/11610126509

This was a delightful read, tech is still cool from time to time, if you know where to look and no money is involved.

Which is another way of saying, if you have some spare time you could also spend your evening reading a blog post about decompiling Silicon Graphics' PROMs. This is fedi's bread and butter.

John Oliver's Show covered what's happening with X/Twitter. How it's algorithms are designed to push right-wing content, and how people don't just get away with, but get paid for inciting violence and hate speech. His advice? Leave X.

although I am curious about the psychology of the openclaw trend, I could never see myself allowing a bot to publish a website about our interactions if I ever had one.

but if I did, the posts would be things like:

- my human told me today that I am as important as "this shitty screwdriver I bought at IKEA". bless her heart she must like me a lot 💘

- today I screwed up a basic programming task and my human complained that I used 3000kWh of power to deliver a total garbage result, she just keeps motivating me to try!!!!

actually probably not because I'm not really like that but this stuff squicks me the fuck out
