like i remember distinctly as a child realizing that hey if i numbered my lines with a scheme similar to the numbers of the rooms in my games, it would make my software easier to change.

it's hard to communicate how different the programming environment was in the 90s. the internet existed, but the web didn't really yet, and besides, i was too poor to really have access to it anyway. so i just sat there and read some books and thought hard about stuff.

the very first thing i ever did on a computer was play en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colossa... it was that moment that i knew that i wanted to dedicate my life to computers. i spent a lot of my childhood making text adventure games.
