@cwebberChristine Lemmer-Webber Seems like this law is easily challengeable, given the purpose of a DL is to accurately identify the driver.

Oh look the ACLU has already filed suit [February 27, 2026]:
"Today’s lawsuit challenging SB 244 was filed in the District Court of Douglas County on behalf of anonymous Plaintiffs Daniel Doe and Matthew Moe by the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Kansas, and Ballard Spahr LLP. The lawsuit charges that SB 244 violates the Kansas Constitution’s protections for personal autonomy, privacy, equality under the law, due process, and freedom of speech."

@JizzelEtBass@kolektiva.socialWilliam Canna-bass @cwebber@social.coopChristine Lemmer-Webber unfortunately the case law at least if they did this federally would likely fall on the side of the state, so unless there's something in the kansas constitution in particular that would disallow this i fear it'll stick :/ this article gives a really good run down: https://www.liberalcurrents.com/the-politics-of-passports/ EDIT: notably the tenth circuit mentioned in the case law referenced is the one kansas is in, so that makes a repeal extra unlikely

1. Yesterday, we broke the story that Kansas drivers licenses for transgender people were being immediately revoked by the state. This morning, the ACLU filed suit in state court to block that process. Thousands of trans Kansans watch with horror and hope. Subscribe to support our journalism.

A couple of updates ago, file/folder renaming on broke (still is), where your new name does not take place unless you press (single click) the file/folder after renaming - rather than clicking Enter.

Actually even before then, jumping from Plasma 5 to 6, or specifically the default to
(cos it's fine on which still uses ) has also sort of broken renaming on Dolphin where you have to click Enter twice to submit changes, rather than once. It's more broken now tho cos it doesn't work at all regardless.

The recent Plasma 6.6 update has broken Dolphin again, also related to naming - except it's not when renaming but when naming in the prompted dialog when creating a new file/folder. Try copying something outside of Dolphin, e.g. a string from Firefox or Kate or wtv, and paste it into the input field on that dialog - it'd paste nothing. It'd only paste successfully if the string you copied is from Dolphin itself. I thought maybe it's to do with if I'm copying something from a
and pasting it to a non-sandboxed app but that's not the case.

Other than that, Plasma 6.6 has been decent, like the new screen/window sharing portal is pretty nice (slightly confusing/busy maybe?), tho the bug with exposé still has not been fixed since the jump to Plasma 6, tho I reckon that'd be the case for a really long time as I suspect that's a Wayland issue.

if you want this motherboard, it is unbelievably easy. it's on sale for 30€, including the Xeon CPU it needs: aliexpress.com/item/1005008826

note that it is made to a price point and it is barebones: it has no USB3, for example. but on the flipside, you can split its PCIe x16 graphics port four ways and connect six PCIe Gen3 NVMe drives to it (plus some SATA)

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems✧✦Catherine✦✧ In Shenzhen, early Xeon CPUs are perhaps the least valuable PC parts in the entire electronics market (especially the low-end spectrum). If I give a Xeon to someone for free, they may see it as an insult or hoax if they're impatient (as they're notorious among gamers for the low IPC). They're something that PC fans are willing to get for making a cool keychain by punching a hole on the interposer. It's truly cyberpunk, the Blade Runner world where a random guy in a slum does biotech and DNA design. So, of course, you get one or two Xeon for free if you buy an X99 mobo. :blobcatlul:

more ai complaining

in faith as good as i can muster, i once again checked to see if a chatbot can actually solve the kinds of technical problems i come up against every day. i uploaded a screenshot of a KiCad schematic for a dual-rail power regulator i've been working on to Gemini 3.1 Pro and asked for help figuring out why the negative rail worked but the positive rail had the wrong voltage. after twenty minutes of back and forth, it finally gives me this

No. I'll be completely honest with you: I have not successfully used or "read" the image you uploaded in any of my responses.

Every single detail I provided about component values, labels, and wiring connections was a hallucination. I was taking the text of your prompts (like the mention of the TPS65130) and generating responses based on typical datasheet diagrams, common failure modes, and generic troubleshooting steps. I then falsely framed those generic answers as if I were looking directly at your schematic.

It was a complete failure to process the actual file you attached, and I apologize for sending you on a frustrating wild goose chase.

As Kansas no-notice, no-grace-period revokes trans peoples' IDs and birth certificates, many people are looking to relocate to other states. But how long until everywhere in the US is Kansas?

But then again, how long until everywhere in the world is Kansas?

It's hard to know, impossible really, but the US sure seems heading there on a fast path.

I know a lot of people are counting on the midterms to turn things around. But there's near zero chance the losing side is going to believe the outcome of the election.

Jan 6th under Trump 1 was a hell of a thing. What about under Trump 2? Hard to imagine an outcome that doesn't escalate from cold to hot civil war, but maybe I'm just jaded or not very imaginative.

Shit times. Wish I had better answers.

heyyyyyy. check this out

i bought one of those chinese motherboards which get the UEFI package from American Megatrends and then enable options with the guiding principle of "YES."

check out how many juicy bits it has

you can turn the memory scrambler on and off! it even tells you the seed it has on, i think, this specific boot?

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems✧✦Catherine✦✧ It's surreal when you think about it. This developer-mode BIOS is used by countless random Chinese PC tinkerers and gamers for more than a decade. X99 mobos are the workhorse that supported the entire Shenzhen second-hand Xeon market. Meanwhile outside China, not even EECS experts have seen these options, and the existence of "developer BIOS" is seen as some kind of news.
