My washing machine doesn’t need Wi-Fi.
It's a feature that I would regret.
I just need a way to wash my pants.
Not show them to the Internet.

My oven doesn't need Wi-Fi.
I'd value that least of all.
It's already shielded from getting too hot.
It doesn't need another firewall.

My fridge does not need Wi-Fi.
That is just not useful for me.
I want a place to chill my food.
Not chat via TCP/IP.

President Trump’s decision to launch a large-scale military operation – particularly in the absence of an imminent threat to the US – “raises serious legal and constitutional concerns,” says Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), vice chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence.

this is mostly a pretty great summation of where we are with AI coding. The conundrum is described in the section "Your Brain on AI" and "Finding Your Threshold" is a great description of where a developer needs to strike the balance, noting correctly the "I never use AI ever" position for anyone senior is crazy at this point (if I were a junior, I'd probably tell them it's OK to ask an LLM for verbal advice, but not to actually write code, if they hope to learn anything), while also noting the ongoing issues (again for seniors, cognitive decline IMO is the biggest)

I have nothing good to say about Anthropic just like I have nothing good to say about Muskrat during his spat with the orange man, or any of the orange man's associates when he turns on them.

Anthropic knowingly partnered with the pentagon. Their other partner, Palantir, is probably the most evil tech company in the world, which, among other things, powers the ICE abductions of members of our communities. I can go on and on.

War / UAE

Anxiety through the roof as I’ve been texting all day with a friend who lives in Dubai.

The Emirates have been under retaliatory missile attack for hours… the first strikes targeted military bases but they have since moved to other targets. The Fairmont Hotel at Palm Jumeirah was hit by debris… my friend reports seeing jets overhead and hearing frequent loud booms.

You may not see this in the news but Reddit’s UAE community has tons of first-hand accounts: reddit.com/r/UAE/

I see some posts on here (both on web and in Tusky, my mobile client) using indented blockquote styling, how do I get that in my own posts? When I try the markdown version, eg

> Here's a quote

it doesn't show up as expected.

RE: med-mastodon.com/@mloxton/1161

Dear people - please check your sources. This is very much not what is happening: see Bavaria extending its contract with Microsoft: heise.de/en/news/Cloud-Row-in- See the Netherlands outsourcing the VAT handling to a US company: mastodon.nl/@bert_hubert/11613

Catodon second beta released! 26.03-beta.2
I'm getting closer to a stable release, I think I will not add much more stuff for the first release - I'm already super happy with the changes so far.

Release notes:
- Further adjustments to the redesigned posting form, visibility is now next to account selector, better alignment
- Posting form in timeline takes up half the space as it is normally collapsed
- Significant improvements in notifications, highlighted divider marks the change from new to old notifications
- Notification dot should now work without needing adjustments from admins
- Following/Mutual Followers/Followers renamed to Split timeline, bumped next to Home
- Home now has a selection between Following and Mutual followers
- Many bug fixes and minor visual improvements

enjoy
