Debugging fail in #Python: I had a generator function:
def them():
for thing in some_things():
yield thing
But I wanted to quickly try changing it to use a helper that returned a list, so I just added that code at the top:
def them():
return them_from_somewhere_else()
for thing in some_things():
yield thing
Took me a while to figure out why `list(them())` was always an empty list.

I just finished The South, without realising it's the first of four books. This makes me really happy, because The South is absolutely sublime. I've loved most of Tash Aw's books that I've read, but this is really special. Can't wait for the next one!

Iran did interfere in the 2020 + 24 elections but it didn’t do much. Those of us working on the Election Integrity Partnership pointed it out at the time. This same right wing bullshit machine alleged that our work was a “censorship industrial complex” and we were attacked by Jim Jordan, Matt Taibbi and Michael Shellenberger who said there was no such thing as disinformation. The FBI task force that worked on this was disbanded as “censors”. Chris Krebs at CISA was fired and smeared.

I worked on a large scale project testing medical transcription. (Maybe one of the largest ones) Hundreds of doctors reviewed the output and called out the issues.
It was not, and still is not, ready. Public health teams that roll this out without red teaming and remediation and feedback and a way to influence the weights of models are irresponsible.
I was interviewed by Mozilla Firefox and talked about decentralized social media (#Fediverse and #Bluesky).
