AI, green energy inference
I got this setup working at home, to experiment with and help me to talk with colleagues about potential alternatives to Copilot/OpenAI/Anthropic.

I'm using their open weight models via OpenCode, which also works inside VS Code.

@cwebberChristine Lemmer-Webber I'm really not a huge fan of how ready people seem to be to just completely relinquish their ability to code. It does not take long for your brain to wallpaper over entire skillsets.

How long until the primary engineers no longer understand the how their program is built or what motivated ostensibly insignificant decisions that eventually add up
I hope one day to see AI and quantum computing solve the most intractable, complex problem in digital technology, one that has defeated our most powerful programming minds: making web forms that don't care whether you put a space in the postal code.

So I joined the Fediverse only to find the trending seems to be the same far-left echo chamber as the other sites. Kind of disappointed. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
Yesterday, I learned how to mute hashtags so I could remove politically related ones. Today it's like a new Mastodon.
I had a personal #Linux win! My buddy wanted a cheap laptop and he asked me to find him a $200 #Chromebook. I told him any $200 Chromebook would be of crappy quality. Instead I found him a $200 #Dell #XPS for sale on #Swappa. I'm gonna install Linux and he will have a high quality kick ass fast laptop!
