Fediverse admins with public servers,

If you want extra advice and info for screening new members wanting to join your server, there's a list of resources compiled by @iftas at:

🌱 about.iftas.org/library/url-do

The resources cover IP addresses, email providers and web addresses. The web address section could also be used for moderating links on platforms that support this.

(Thank you to @CrazypediaCrazypedia won't Comply for raising this topic and @iftas for providing the resources 🙏 )

One of the reasons why, over time, I've learned not to condemn things outright is that life itself teaches you something important: sometimes you have to make the wrong choice for the right reasons.

Life is full of compromises. And the more you live, the more you learn (or should learn) to be at least a little tolerant of the choices others make, even when they seem to clash with your own convictions.

In the past few weeks I've had to make decisions I would never have imagined a few years ago. Choices very far from my own point of view. But sometimes reality pushes you into a corner, and the options are simple: give up, or make a "wrong" choice now and fix things later.

A recent example I can share: I advised a client to reinstall Windows 11. I wasn't happy about it, but at that moment there was no real alternative.
This morning he told me their software will soon move to a web-based platform. Which means the next step will be a new FreeBSD server and, at that point, the clients can move to Linux or a BSD system.

Fight your battles. Stand for what you believe in. But try to remain clear-headed.

Life teaches that you often go farther by moving slowly but steadily toward your destination, stopping every now and then to look around.

According to Ukraine's President Zelenskyy more than 800 PAC-3 Patriot missiles have been used in the latest Iran war, more PAC-3 missiles Ukraine ever possessed, altogether.

$4 billions in 5 days for shooting down flying mopeds. Well done.

🥁 We're happy to announce the location for the next AlpCHI conference!

Following the inaugural version this year, AlpCHI 2028 will be in beautiful Constance, Germany at the Lake Constance! It is situated <50 km away from the Säntis (2501 m above sea level) in Switzerland, and thus qualifies as a suitable AlpCHI location 😉

Stay tuned for more information!

An areal photo of Konstanz, Germany showing the city center and the Rhine river. An overlay shows the "AlpCHI 2028" logo on the top right in white. In the center white bold text says "See you at AlpCHI 2028" with thinner text saying "The next AlpCHI will happen in Konstanz, Germany. Stay tuned for more information."

So ... who didn't see this coming? Google terminated Glass years ago because of these types of privacy violations.

A Swedish investigation found that "videos, including of glasses-wearers using the toilet or having sex, are sometimes reviewed by a Kenya-based Meta subcontractor."

"Meta said subcontracted workers might sometimes review content, including films and images, captured by its AI smart glasses for the purpose of improving the 'experience'."

BBC, from yesterday: Regulator contacts Meta over workers watching intimate AI glasses videos bbc.com/news/articles/c0q33nvj @BBCNews

@alice🅰🅻🅸🅲🅴 (🌈🦄) assertiveness is a big part, but I think not just that. Men¹ do not listen to women. So tha man who repeats your idea first and explains it to you back gets the credit from the others. The only thing that corrects them is if another man points out their behaviour. But it is ingrained so much that even calling out does not stop it from occurring again. Next time, they do the same. 💔

@AzzuraAzzura :v_pan: @alice🅰🅻🅸🅲🅴 (🌈🦄)

This became a big thing at my previous job. There was a meeting of essentially the whole program I was on. Way bigger than it needed to be, so most of us were just spectators. I don't remember what issue they were trying to solve, but a woman made a suggestion, it was ignored, a little later a man repeated the suggestion, and it was taken seriously. The most notable thing about this incident is that another woman called it out in the same meeting, and that actually started a good discussion. Of course, afterwards a bunch of guys were rolling their eyes and saying "oh, I guess we have to be careful what we say now." I was not out at work at that time, so there was an extra layer of discomfort for me. But the fact that this happened and was called out publicly among the higher levels of the company seemed to empower women there to speak up more.

RE: mastodon.online/@danirabbit/11

we find it sufficient to point out that the TESCREAL bundle, the people in charge of the LLMs and promulgating the endless cascade of slop being shoved in our faces at every turn, are eugenicist white supremacists themselves. LLM tech is inherently fascist.
