Formalizing the stability of the two Higgs doublet model potential into Lean: identifying an error in the literature

In 2006, using the best methods and techniques available at the time, Maniatis, von Manteuffel, Nachtmann and Nagel published a now widely cited paper on the stability of the two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) potential. Twenty years on, it is now easier to apply the process of formalization into an interactive theorem prover to this work thanks to projects like Mathlib and PhysLib (formerly PhysLean and Lean-QuantumInfo), and to ask for a higher standard of mathematical correctness. Doing so has revealed an error in the arguments of this 2006 paper, invalidating their main theorem on the stability of the 2HDM potential. This case is noteworthy because to the best of our knowledge it is the first non-trivial error in a physics paper found through formalization. It was one of the first papers where formalization was attempted, which raises the uncomfortable question of how many physics papers would not pass this higher level of scrutiny.

People consistently seem to use it as a way to denigrate "those people/groups over there" so that they don't have to look _at what is going on around them_.

AI Art Advice / Discourse

So if you're evaluating whether to commission or pay an artist, and you're uncertain whether they are AI, the most surefire way to make that determination is to ask the artist about their medium and their process. There is not an artist in the world that isn't happy to talk about their medium. If they're cagey about that, easy red flag.

If you're evaluating whether to favorite, comment, or engage with an artist on some level that doesn't directly involve exchanging money, the stakes are lower; you can still ask about the medium if you want, but like. If you don't have the time or energy or desire to have that conversation with every artist you engage with, and there's some art that you're on the fence about, I promise you, I PROMISE YOU, the engagement, the encouragement, the share, means THE WORLD to the artist if they're real, while withholding that engagement from an AI user really will not be felt by the prime movers of the AI world.

If 5% of the time you accidentally engage with AI art, that's still 95% of the time that you're actively encouraging and helping real artists get noticed in a sea of talent and an ocean of slop. That means everything.

Put another way: accidentally refusing to engage (or worse, encouraging others to refuse to engage) with a real artist based on arcane pattern-seeking and hunches that it might be AI is *far more damaging* to real artists than it is to AI and frankly, probably more damaging to them than AI itself.

You don't need to have a perfect success rate at AI detection. Support real artists by engaging with them instead of being so afraid of AI that you make it harder for them. It's gonna be okay. Connection and engagement is both the purpose of art and the best weapon we have against generative AI, and that is frankly great news for artists.

Apply2Isar: Automatically Converting Isabelle/HOL Apply-Style Proofs to Structured Isar

In Isabelle/HOL, declarative proofs written in the Isar language are widely appreciated for their readability and robustness. However, some users may prefer writing procedural "apply-style" proof scripts since they enable rapid exploration of the search space. To get the best of both worlds, we introduce Apply2Isar, a tool for Isabelle/HOL that automatically converts apply-style scripts to declarative Isar. This allows users to write complex, possibly fragile apply-style scripts, and then automatically convert them to more readable and robust declarative Isar proofs. To demonstrate the efficacy of Apply2Isar in practice, we evaluate it on a large benchmark set consisting of apply-style proofs from the Isabelle Archive of Formal Proofs.

國中時有一次朝會（？現在是不是已經沒有這種事情了？）時好像是以國三學生快要畢業為由，有一對男女學長姐上台唱歌給大家聽，操場上的我們都很困惑，而且唱的是《雪中紅》，學姐先唱然後唱得超爛的，爛到眾人面面相覷，但學長一開口就引起了一陣「喔喔～～！」，確實是宛如王識賢的厲害歌聲，雖然整個對唱還是蠻悲劇的但總之是唱完大家也鼓掌結束了這一回合。

後來過了好一陣子有一次音樂課老師還找了一個畢業生來跟我們講話，講什麼我已經忘記了，只記得大家本來完全搞不懂這人幹嘛來跟我們講話，但過一陣子之後大家就發現他是那個雪中紅學長！！於是「是那個雪中紅！！！」的私語聲此起彼落XDD

不知道為什麼突然想起這個雪中紅學長XDD 好想知道他現在到底在幹嘛喔？還想知道他當年的女友（必定是這樣吧？）想起當年在全校前面唱歌時到底會覺得這是黑歷史還是甜蜜的回憶呢？看別人的青春都覺得好青春喔 :ageblobcat:
