Socratic Irony requires faith, however faint, that truth is worth uncovering, that dialogue can refine us, that ignorance exposed is a step towards wisdom. It is in a quiet way, optimistic. Even Socrates with all his feigned ignorance believed the soul could be improved by inquiry.
The modern cynical subject however has already lost that faith. He knows the game is rigged, the arguments are rehearsed, the participants are posturing.
Why bother uncovering truth when truth itself has become just another rhetorical prop? Thus sarcasm emerges, not as a fall from irony, but as its degenerate descendant.
Where Socratic irony says "let us peel away illusion," cynical reason signs, "everything is illusion so let me at least be entertaining while suffocating in it."
Sarcasm, then is irony that has given up on redemption. It keeps the form of intelligence (wit, inversion, distance) but abandons the purpose.

Berlin Glassworks is a really lovely non-profit that does free classes for kids, supports aritsts, and gives opportunities for adults to learn about working with glass, including glass blowing, cold working, and stained glass. They are however in permanent dire straits thanks to the volatility of the energy market, the disappearance of public funding grants under the current #Berlin government, and the simple fact that running a hot shop is expensive and hard to maintain.
They are currently doing a fundraiser to help with their funding situation, as well as place some relief on their financials by allowing them to bulk order things like glass cullet (the raw material you melt in a furnace to blow glass).
If you have the means, please consider throwing them a donation. Their work exposes many children to a disappearing craft, and provides a space for new glassblowers to learn. The donations are tax deductible. Help the arts and traditional crafts.

Packet from Mir... I have a QSL card for a connection to the R0MIR-1 packet mailbox on Christmas Day (UTC) 1996. Had to leave a message, get a message number from the packet system, and send that in for the QSL card. I don't have the file where I captured my connection as I left my message, but still have the QSL card after all these years...

We built mxmap.nl to make that visible, all Dutch municipalities, mapped by email provider based on public DNS records.
Inspired by the Swiss original mxmap.ch by David Huser. We adapted it for the Netherlands. All credit for the concept goes to him.
Under the CLOUD Act, provider location matters. The map makes the current reality clear.
