Katar v roce 2025 vyprodukoval přibližně 63 milionů krychlových metrů hélia, což představuje 30 až 36 procent celosvětové nabídky z celkového objemu zhruba 190 milionů krychlových metrů. Tři velké závody společnosti QatarEnergy na čištění hélia v Rás Laffánu tvoří největší základnu pro výrobu hélia na světě. Když po íránských úderech drony 2. března a následném raketovém poškození 19. března zastavila výroba LNG, extrakce hélia se automaticky zastavila s ní – hélium se totiž získává při zkapalňování zemního plynu. Bez výroby LNG nelze vyrábět hélium. Vedlejší produkt zaniká spolu s hlavním.
