I was too tired yesterday, but here is a summary of #NOAW day 2 (the final day). First, @mfeilnerMarkus Feilner gave a talk on his #fédipub idea: https://mastodon.social/@mfeilner/116261607946162297.
I really liked the idea of 'levels' for public institutions. For me, something like this could be useful:
1. Having a Mastodon account.
2. A public press release and cross-posting.
3. Not just broadcasting, but also engaging.
4. Running your own instance.
5. Having other accounts on this instance for other departments.
6. Having an account on other appropriate Fediverse services.
This is to be continued.
For this, @KIT_Karlsruhe and @landesregierungLand Schleswig-Holstein are already at level 5.
@DeutscherWetterdienstDeutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) is probably only level 2.
Perhaps a better version of this metric could help guide public organisations towards better usage.

This piece (and the ones linked from it) from Kenneth Reitz, of Request fame, is worth reading.

There are other takes, of course, but how open source plays (played?) out from his perspective is (very) relevant (again) in our new AI amplified moment.

However, for me, Rust speeds up the compile&debug cycle compared to C++. It’s impractical to compile a piece of Gecko C++ separately from Firefox, so with C++, I have to compile Firefox as a whole and when upload a recording of excecuting Firefox as a whole to Pernosco. With Rust, I can typically iterate on a component separately.
