Since 2008, my disillusionment with the actual existing market mechanisms we have, rather than the ones I wish we had, has (obviously?) been pretty intense. One of the reasons I like reading Matt Levine so much is that he is one of the few people who understands the actual mechanics of the market, believes it can be socially valuable, but is experiencing the same anguish I am that all the stewards of it have turned out to be not merely self-interested but basically just criminals in many cases.
