I'm reading a book of essays by Jelani Cobb right now and one of the things he talks about is how Republicans have known for years that they are losing their ability to win an election out of sheer demographic change. This is why they are so into voter suppression, keeping poor people poor, and removing educational opportunities.

I feel Alex Karp's latest reveal is just an extension of that.
