The usual visualizations of general relativity that show balls moving in a curved potential are misleading not because spacetime is four-dimensional, but because spacetime has the weird Minkowskian metric, with the square of the time componen being subtracted rather than added to the distance. I have no idea how to visualize curved spacetime where distances can be positive, negative, or zero.
