The German Industry Association's summer reception is over and all I see on social media is: People sharing photos, funny anecdotes, praising Dorothee Bär's speech and that she played a couple of games on site.

Not a single mention of her anti-queer agenda, zero support for my attempts to finally get a (convincing) response to my inquiries regarding the mismatch of the Association's alleged diversity-oriented values and their complete lack of criticism towards Bär. Nothing.

I'm not entirely suprised, but still disappointed. And to everyone who attended the event but decided not to speak up: Queer people in the industry notice your priorities. We notice that you clearly value career opportunities over safe spaces and equal rights for marginalised people.

Around 500 guests from politics, business and the games industry gathered at our summer reception to discuss the future of games in Germany. 🌅🤝 A key moment of the evening: Federal Research Minister Dorothee Bär and Parliamentary State Secretary Matthias Hauer took to the stage together to outline the new government’s ambitions for the German games industry. Among the top priorities are: 🎮 tax incentives for game development 🕹️ a more reliable, targeted and fast-track funding system 💡 The integration of games into Germany’s national high-tech strategy Minister Bär also announced her intention to visit gamescom this August, where she will present the government’s first concrete steps in its updated games policy. "The announcements made by Minister Bär at our summer reception, the coalition agreement's strong commitments to the games industry, and the broad political support make us very optimistic as we head into this new legislative period. We are grateful for this backing from all sides. As an industry, we want to realise our full potential in Germany. To achieve this, we need internationally competitive conditions, and the introduction of additional tax-based funding for games is a significant step towards this goal. 'We must all harness this momentum to quickly turn Germany into one of the world’s top locations for game development," said Felix Falk, Managing Director of game. 📸 Photo: Cosplayer, Parliamentary State Secretary Matthias Hauer, Federal Research Minister Dorothee Bär, Felix Falk, Cosplayer 📷 Photo: Franziska Krug for game Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt
