While across Europe & especially in the UK general social attitudes to (inward) migration remain broadly positive, the Far Right has been successful in moving the dial towards anti-migrant attitudes.
The tragedy is that politicians could have used this base acceptance & valuing of migrants to fight the viciousness of the Far Right on the issue but rather have colluded & accepted the anti-migrant rhetoric (causing attitudes to begin to shift).
