I've only been playing Factorio for a thousand hours, so I still sometimes get surprised by having new ideas.

For example, here's a standard midgame oil refining setup. This is a very regimented pipe weaving pattern that can be tiled infinitely.

Then I realized, oh, you can flip modules. Which means you can line up the import and exports instead of alternating.

This means we can either get rid of the one tile gap or USE it for more compressed, cheaper layouts...

Exciting, I know.
