Seeing people criticizing Gary Gygax (or any of the pioneering creators) for the 1st edition AD&D (or any early edition) rules' inconsistencies and perceived issues is like seeing someone complain about the original Star Wars film using models instead of computers for its special effects.

They were creating shit that didn't exist before. They had to make it up as they went. Everything that came after built on their blood, sweat, and tears. Show some respect.
