Wot’s going on here?

We left some stuff wrapped up in a *blue* tarp on the back paved area for a bit over a year. We have some medium sized back birds who live in our garden and spend most of their time digging up the mulch and making a general mess of the garden, spreading the mulch everywhere we would rather it wasn’t.

Anyway, these birds made a nest on the ground (centre of the photo) and then scoured the neighbourhood for *blue* things where upon they thieved the things and flew it back to put in front of the the nest … more or less in line with where the blue tarp had been.

Are these birds religious? Is this some sort of tribute to the (now removed) blue tarp? Who knows! They have been at it for a couple of years now. I have even found a blue lid from a spray can (like a can of WD40 or something), so they must be really trying hard to fly with cumbersome (and - for them - heavyish) objects.

BTW, the Blue Tongue lizard has now returned to the garage after what I assume was a winter nap. It scared the crap out of me the other day when it appeared at my feet (for the first time since it’s winter sojourn) when I was not expecting it. The lizard is notoriously camera unfriendly, but I will try and get a shot of it at some point.

Photo of a bird’s next on the ground with an assortment of blue things they have collected and flown in.
