There’s an app called I Am, and it’s supposed to be good for self esteem by showing you self-affirming phrases every day that you can repeat to yourself to start retraining your brain to not be self-critical.

Which, in theory, sounds very nice.

However, because attention is money and you are the product, the app keeps track of “streaks.” And it tells you constantly to stay on your streak, don’t fall behind on your streak, start a new streak… it’s exhausting.

I hate that everything has to be stupid-ass techbro bullshit. They can even turn a positive idea about mental health into a gamified hellscape. Fuck off with your streaks. Fuck off with you.
