2700 feet high in the San Gabriels, in a gravel lot near the intersection of two mountain roads you will find a couple old picnic tables: this is Bear Divide Vista Picnic Area. Nine years ago, humans discovered that as many as 20,000 birds a day fly through this notch during spring migration. This Western Tanager rests for a few seconds before continuing his journey from Central America to Northern Canada.
