양자 터널링 효과를 우리 눈으로 가장 쉽게 볼 수 있는 방법중 하나는 frustrated total internal reflection이란 거에요.

보통 빛이 굴절률이 높은 곳에서 낮은 곳으로 향할때, 특정 입사각 이상이면 전반사라 해서 빛이 100% 반사되죠. 근데 그때 아주 살짝 떨어진 곳에 프리즘같은 다른 물체가 있으면, 전반사 지점의 소멸파(evanescent wave)와 그 물체가 상호작용하면서, 빛이 그곳으로 도달할 수 있게 된답니다.

원래는 전반사때문에 도달할 수 없는 곳이지만, 빛의 파동적 특성때문에 가능한 일이죠.
