The software industry is insanely desperate at this point to force people into using these tools and depending on them so they can deskill workers, but they literally cannot do anything if we just stand together and don't use these things. AI isn't inevitable, we aren't close to that.
I can promise from having gotten scared into doing an AI goal for one financial quarter that it wasn't worth it and I immensely regret not just saying no. The reality is there isn't a way of talking with the people trying to force these tools on us that gets anywhere. You can't use the tool for a little while to entertain them with the expectation you will only keep using it if it's useful. That's not what they want, literally any and all feedback that isn't "wow the AI is cool!" Will be routinely dismissed and thrown out, and considered to be just "oh they don't like the new tool.". You don't get any different of a standing compared to simply refusing to engage with it at all, all you do is make it harder for the people around you to also maintain the line.
