@zkatkat the gen ai code issues in software engineering land are not the beginning of a new problem, just a continuation of what was already there.

The majority of software devs have been making life worse for everybody else for a long time now. For every Stenburg and Torvalds and FOSS volunteer there’s 10,000 software engineers working at some big company, shitting out code that’s either functionally bad or ethically bad or both.

IMO the issue is the culture. Somebody who takes a job at meta or google ect is somebody who has already decided that as long as they get paid, they’re happy to cause harm to others. It’s not too shocking then to realise these are the same people who would happily use ai coding tools in a way that puts others at risk.
