Dr. Fadel El-Zubi, food security expert and regional policy adviser for North Africa and the Near East at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), said that food assistance reaching Gaza covers less than five percent of the population’s actual needs, despite the fact that several weeks passed since the start of the ceasefire.
In an interview with Arabi21, El-Zubi stated that the ceasefire has allowed a limited and fragile increase in the entry of aid, but has not changed the reality that food security in Gaza remains extremely fragile.
He added that the territory continues to depend almost entirely on humanitarian assistance, while the risk of famine persists unless restrictions are lifted and international funding is strengthened.
