According to Reuters, Israel seeks to "encourage Palestinians to emigrate from Gaza," while sources report it also plans to establish a military checkpoint inside Gaza to screen all movement. The Rafah crossing, the only exit for over two million Gazans, is set to open next week under a U.S.-backed transitional Palestinian committee. However, Israel intends to limit entries and impose checks, heightening fears of expulsion or permanent displacement under the guise of border management. These intentions were echoed publicly by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich last week, who demanded the war resume and called for Palestinians in Gaza to be ethnically cleansed "through Egypt, whether they like it or not."
