What a very strange day. Insurance company sent out gas safety engineers to sign off compliances. As soon as the guy arrived I didn't like him. He had a trainee and seemed to be showing off. Made a huge fuss about the hob and has basically condemned it. Apparently modern hobs when the flame goes out the gas cuts off. Great but this hob has never done that in the past 3 years nor any hob in any house I've ever lived in. He said that means we will almost certainly all explode to death and cut off the gas supply. I said I didn't want to but he said I'd have to sign a waiver then they would REPORT ME TO THE GOVERNMENT and it would invalidate any insurance we have. He also said (and I quote) "... you will get into trouble with the government". What the fuck does that mean? So my wife persuaded me to just shut up and let them do their job. So I now have no hob. The one thing I use every single day. I was quite annoyed about it but have realised I can just move the camping stoves inside ha ha up yours, gas wanker. I'm goin' camping! He also said our boiler would explode us all to death if we removed its cover and ran it non-stop without the cover on. What a weird thing to say. Why would I remove the cover? Why would we run it constantly - does he think I am the Sultan of Brunei? If there's a scenario where it may explode, why doesn't he do something about it? If his whole issue is that gas is combustible - dude that's sort of the fuckn point.
