"I tried adding solar to a house. Hands down the most difficult thing I’ve ever done

I volunteered to make an energy-efficient home for my darling grandchildren. What could go wrong"

smh.com.au/environment/sustain

Article isn't about solar as per the headlines. It is about home renovations and needing pole, switchboard and wire upgrades.

Picking a instantaneous electric Hot water isn't efficient. It requires large currents to heat the water, which would have been the reason for wiring upgrades

An electric instantaneous hot water normally requires 3 phase power as well as high currents. It is basically a kettle that boils in a few seconds.

Other options heatpump hotwater, where you are using heat from the surrounding air. You are just using electricity to pump the liquid around rather than heating, same as a fridge
Downside is might be a bit more plumbing to replace gas instant unit and needs more space.

Or evacuated tubes and use the sun to heat the water and store until needed.
