WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt and channel shift.

WHERE...Matanuska River near Butte, AK.

WHEN...Until noon AKDT Wednesday.

IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 817 AM AKDT, Warm temperatures and bank erosion have led to high water breaking through the banks of the Matanuska River between the Old Glenn Highway and the River in the Maud Road area. Water levels are expected to be near peak levels Saturday evening and then very slowly recede over the next few days as temperatures drop and lessens the snow melt in the mountains upriver. However, since this is largely driven by new erosion along the riverbank, persons in this area should continue to monitor the situation. - For Matanuska River at Palmer/Butte: At 7:30am the stage was 24200.0 cfs. Forecast: A crest around 24400.0 cfs is expected around 4:00pm Sunday. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
